Authorities arrested a South Florida man found with 104 phones and credit cards stolen from attendees during last weekend’s Orlando EDC, according to the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office.
Adeson Yordan Ortega Rodriguez, 25, of Hialeah, was pulled over Monday after rolling through a stop sign in Pahokee, a small community near Lake Okeechobee.
During the stop, Rodriguez got out of the vehicle immediately trying to separate himself from the car, PBSO said. The deputy specifically noted Rodriguez’s nervousness during their interaction.
Rodriguez explained to the deputy he was coming from the Electric Daisy Carnival that was held from Friday-Sunday in Orlando.
Rodriguez was driving a black four door sedan found to be registered and owned by Miami rental car company. The rear window of the car was broken with a large hole in the upper left side corner, which Rodriguez said happened during an altercation after EDC.
A passenger in the vehicle, identified as Alfred Enrique Suarez Ramos, 26, was found to be hiding a small amount of marijuana.
The deputy then conducted a search of the vehicle with Rodriguez’s permission and found a bag containing 43 smartphones, several personal IDs and six credit cards.
The deputy found another bag in the trunk which had Spirit Airlines ticket for Ramos, as well as an additional 61 phones, PBSO said.
After placing the two under arrest, the deputy heard Rodriguez in the back of the squad car coaching Ramos in what to say regarding the phones, and that he was confident there were no witnesses.
PBSO inserted 20 of the removed SIM cards and contacted the phones’ owners, who were able to confirm there phones were stolen after a young man bumped into them at EDC, according to PBSO.
Many of the phones were confirmed to have been stolen at EDC. The phones are being sent to the Orlando Police Department which will be processing the stolen phones case, PBSO said.
Rodriguez faces several charges including unlawful possession of the personal identity information of another person and possession of stolen credit cards, according to PBSO.
Charges for Ramos were not immediately identified.
Rodriguez isn’t alone in his arrest after EDC as a 34-year-old man, Carlos Perez Hernandez, was arrested Sunday for stealing 34 phones during the music festival.
