Tampa Bay drive-in entertainment expands to drag show, laser lights – Tampa Bay Times

The retro concept of the drive-in has renewed life in the coronavirus pandemic era. Two local promoters plan to take the idea further in February with a drag show in Brandon and a laser light show in Wesley Chapel — both to be watched from the safety of your vehicle.
A drive-in show in the Westfield Brandon parking lot will feature queens from RuPaul’s Drag Race. In Wesley Chapel there will be a family-friendly laser light show with music and huge video screens.
Bianca Del Rio will host the show, called Drive ‘N Drag Saves 2021, with six queens from RuPaul’s Drag Race. They’ll take on superhero and villain personas for a show to “save the world from the debacle that was 2020.”
“What’s the best way to save our country? We thought, let’s save the day and be superheroes,” Del Rio said.
Dressed in capes, wings and masks, stars Aquaria, Asia O’Hara, Kameron Michaels, Naomi Smalls, Plastique and Violet Chachki join Del Rio and work the stage to deliver a comedic drag-style message of hope for a better future.
“We’re excited to hit the road again in 2021 with our drive-in productions,” said show producer Brandon Voss. “Our wildly popular stage shows have proven the drag shows must go on even through a pandemic.”
As with most drag shows, expect over-the-top costuming, along with elaborate stages, festive decor and lighting, huge screens and house music pumped into your car via FM transmitters. It takes place at 7 and 9:30 p.m. Feb. 23-24 at Westfield Brandon, 459 Brandon Town Center Drive. Tickets are $69 per car for two passengers, $25 for each additional passenger. Parking spots are assigned upon arrival. All cars are parked with large spaces between them. Masks are required when outside your vehicle.

Also for February, Lifestyle Festivals and Events Company and partner Encore Laser created a drive-in laser show.
Nicknamed the “Cabin Fever Laser Light Show,” the 45-minute family-friendly show features mixed genre music, videos on two screens, hundreds of lasers and music through outdoor speakers and the car radio.
Approximately 300 socially distanced spaces are available for each show. Spaces are large enough to bring chairs, blankets and picnic supplies. Masks are not required since this is an outdoor, socially distanced event.
Shows are at 7 and 9 p.m. Feb. 25-28 at the Grove, 6333 Wesley Grove Blvd., Wesley Chapel. Tickets are $25 per carload general or $50 for the front row.
