DJ Fresh’s new platform lets users convert their voices to other singers using AI
Chicago house artists Robert Owens, Farley ‘Jackmaster’ Funk and Chuck Roberts are joining Voice-Swap, the AI vocals platform co-founded by DJ Fresh.
The website, which allows users to upload their acapellas and samples and convert them to the voices of other artists, was founded in July this year and already features the AI voices of Liam Bailey, Angie Brown and Ayah Marar.
Robert Owens, Chuck Roberts and Farley ‘Jackmaster’ Funk are three of the originators of house music, and it’s the first time their voices will be available to use via AI modelling. Of the new project, Farley said: “When I heard my voice model for the first time, I couldn’t believe my ears. I thought it had the most insane ability to carry my legacy along with the future of house music. Voice-Swap ensures the continuity of house music for future generations of artists, producers and DJs while still keeping the original Chicago vocal integrity.”
Voice-Swap claims to pay artists a 50/50 gross split on the use of their AI voice, and also uses watermarking on every output to trace conversion back to each user. The platform also creates AI voice models using audio training data that’s specifically for the project in partnership with the artist and their teams, rather than relying on unauthorised audio scraped from sources across the Internet.
Users can access the AI voices of the three Chicago artists now, on the Voice-Swap website.
A recent study found that over half of musicians wouldn’t admit to using AI in their music.
