Debrief: Jedi Jams: A Humble House Records Showcase

“Laser focused” – DJ Keytone, May the First (be with you)

The lightsabre-level concentration of energy funneled into the Humble House Records showcase this past Saturday was evident from the opening credit crawl, as a Jedi jam-packed crowd assembled on the Pier Teaki rooftop for five hours of warrior-monk-friendly fun.

Spaceman Chras formidably tackled the task of being Episode 1 on the decks, as event compere and HHR head-honcho DJ Keytone and co worked to amp up the volume ahead of his BTB set with, uh, DJ Volume. This Is Fun (or is it This Is The Force?) justified their moniker with a string of soaringly-sung house classics, laying waste to any empty outer space across the Humble dancefloor.

Tampa’s Makobo then took the TIE fighter controls, much as the pier rooftop winds continued to take the edge off the late night heat. Amidst the laser displays and increasingly solidified positive atmosphere the concept of the concrete canopy bar simply making leave of its perch and swooping all in attendance to a dancing utopia in the stars began to seem possible. As Saturday turned into Cinco, Humbles’ latest signing Prince.L steered a stellar set anchored by his new minimally housed cut The Night. “We are the night!”

Ringing out said night was St. Pete-based DJ Alejandro. One half of the melodic techno duo Healing Culture (whose track Divine Consciousness released on Humble House back in August), the project is apparently intended to help individuals connect with their divine essence. Which sounds like something that might please any passing warrior-monks from faraway galaxies that happen to be listening. With a lineup composed of such life-affirming artists, the only Revenge of the Fifth possible for anybody in attendance would be to come from drinking one too many rooftop cocktails.

The Jedi Jams Humble House Records showcase raised $89 plus additional in-kind donations for Turning Points, who provide, coordinate, and facilitate services to prevent and reduce homelessness in Manatee County.
