EDM drama: The Chainsmokers announced as Sunset Music Festival headliners, then scrubbed from lineup – Tampa Bay Times

May 30, 2024

At noon on Tuesday, dance-pop heavyweights the Chainsmokers were announced as the Sunday headliners of the 2018 Sunset Music Festival in Tampa.
Within hours, all mention of their name had been scrubbed from SMF’s website and social media, replaced on the poster with a pixelated blob.
Compare for yourself — the original is on the left, the new one on the right:
So what gives? Did someone jump the gun on listing the Closer hitmakers as headliners? Was the ink not dry on the contract, or the font not quite right on the poster?
A spokesman for the festival declined to comment on the change Tuesday night, other than saying Sunday’s headlining slot was still to be announced. We’ve reached out to reps for the Chainsmokers and will keep you posted.
In the meantime, the original poster is still floating around social media, being shared by people in the know in the electronic music world:

The funny thing is, the Chainsmokers and Sunset Music Festival actually have a great history. This would be their fourth fest in Tampa and second as headliners.
“It’s kind of crazy that we have this connection with Tampa,” the Chainsmokers’ Alex Pall told the Times last year. “We started that festival really early in the day in the beginning and a few years later we were headlining, so it’s really great to have that history there.”

This definitely marks an interesting new chapter. Stay tuned for more.
