8 Pop House Songs We’re Playing All Summer – Beyond The Stage Magazine
by June 21, 2024When few things seem guaranteed in the world, music remains a source of inspiration. Historically, dance music especially has surged in popularity during difficult times in the United States.
Although house music likely has a longer history than recorded, the 70s and 80s are referred to as the origin of house music. The genre thrived in the queer, Black and Latinx underground club scene in cities across the country.
More recently, house music influence grew in popularity again in the 2010s following the Great Recession. House music grew into multiple genres like EDM, techno and dubstep.
Today, house music is evolving again. Here’s a playlist to dance your worries away all summer long.
1. “Massive” by Drake
With heavy lyrics but a chorus that turns into a full on dance track, Drake’s new surprise album Honestly Nevermind makes the top of the list. Other notable dance tracks on the album include “Currents”, “Sticky” and “Tie That Binds” to name a few.
2. “Out of Time” by The Weeknd (KAYTRANADA remix)
The Weeknd and Kaytranda teamed up for (suprisingly) the first time to give us this remix of “Out of Time” from Dawn FM. The album lends itself perfectly to a house-influenced remix by the famous producer and DJ.
3. “Push The Feeling On -Mk Dub Revisited Edit” by Nightcrawlers
You probably know a viral hit that samples this classic (like “Hotel Room Service” and “Friday”). While the 1992 original only gained minor success, this remix by DJ Marc Kinchen reached the top 10 of several U.S. and U.K. charts.
4. Fake I.D. by Riton & Kah-Lo
Kah-Lo, a Nigerian singer-songwriter, released this techno-house hit in 2017. Riton, the DJ on the song, said it showcases what a “typical night out in Lagos is really like, especially for those who might not have ever experienced it before”
5. BREAK MY SOUL by Beyoncé
Beyoncé strikes with perfect timing once again, recently unveiling “Break My Soul”. The song quickly became an anthem at New York City Pride weekend, gaining praise for both calling out “hustle culture” and incorporating the traditional themes of house music.
6. Show Me Love by Robin S
Another classic song sampled by dozens of pop songs (including “Break My Soul” again), “Show Me Love” is a dance hit we’ll always play at the pre-party.
7. Vex Oh by KAYTRANADA ft. GoldLink, Eight9FLY, Ari PenSmith
You may know KAYTRANADA from his iconic Boiler Room set or from great several collaborations in the past few years.
8. Heaven Takes You Home by Swedish House Mafia
Remember “Save The World” and “Don’t You Worry Child”? Swedish House Mafia gained a major following in the early 2010s and recently released a new studio album Paradise Again with features from A$AP Rocky, 070 Shake, Ty Dolla $ign and more.
