Black Coffee is a renowned South African DJ and music producer known for his deep, soulful house music. Born Nkosinathi Maphumulo in Umlazi, Kwa-Zulu Natal, he began his career in the mid-1990s and released his debut album in 2003. Over the years, he has built a reputation as an innovative and respected DJ, with acclaimed albums like “Have Another One” (2007), “Home Brewed” (2009), “Africa Rising” (2012), “Pieces of Me” (2015), and “Subconsciously” (2021).
His “Africa Rising” project marked a milestone with a groundbreaking performance featuring a live 24-piece orchestra. Black Coffee blends house with African percussions, jazz, and electronic elements, creating a unique “Afropolitan House” sound.
Since 2015, he has gained international fame, performing at major festivals like Ultra Miami, Tomorrowland, and Coachella. He holds a 21-week residency at Hi Ibiza and performs globally across five continents and 82 countries annually. His notable collaborations include Alicia Keys, Drake, and a Grammy win for “Best Dance/Electronic Album” for “Subconsciously.”
Beyond music, Black Coffee is a philanthropist through his Black Coffee Foundation and ventures into entrepreneurship with FlightMode Digital and YAWA. He also explores interior design and art collection. Despite global success, he remains humble and dedicated, continuously pushing his creative boundaries.
The Audemars Piguet Parallel event returns this year with an all-electronic line-up. Launched in 2022, this series of free musical immersions on the fringes of the Festival offers a moment lost in time by giving select artists the opportunity to perform in unexpected locations on the Montreux Riviera. Held in a secret venue, the experience reflects the shared commitment of the brand and the Montreux Jazz Festival to foster talent by giving artists the opportunity to push their limits and share their passion with the public.
