Concert review: Paramore at House of Blues Orlando – Creative Loafing Tampa

While waiting in line, I decided I would drive thousands of miles and wait in a 10-mile long line to see/hear Paramore lead singer Hayley Williams. She is so spunky and cute and perfect. My friend and I decided after the show that she is destined to be a music icon who, in my opinion, has the potential to rise higher than Madonna or Blondie. You'd thing there was a 300-pound black women stuck inside that little body when she hits those high notes. I mean, how else can you explain the physics of Hayley's size verses the sound that comes forth from her body? Maybe it's one of those worldly mysteries we will never figure out. Oh, and did I mention she is only 20 years old? She has been touring since the tender age of 16. I think she may have the whole "rock star" thing down pat by now.
[image-1]Pardon the tangent, I get carried away sometimes. I can't help it. Yes, Hayley is amazing, but let's not forget the rest of Paramore, like original members and brothers Josh and Zac Farro. Last night these guys were on point. I did not hear one glitch in the entire set. The guitar clamored through the speakers, becoming the ideal backdrop for Hayley's vocals. And don't get me started on Zac's ferocious drums; He is a beast! Sometimes I would look up at him during the show and get lost in a trance of flying drum sticks and intricate beats. These brothers got together with Hayley back in 2002 when she moved to their hometown, Franklin, Tenn. They've been making kick ass music ever since.
Bassist Jeremy Davis also caught my eye last night (and not only because he is extremely hot). He can do some crazy shit with that bass! I kept getting distracted by his jumping and thrusting and maneuvering. I don't know how he can actually play the right notes while being so crazy! I loved it. And of course, the newest member of the band, Taylor York. He was all over the place, too! How do they not get dizzy? You can tell these guys love what they do, and that makes it even better for the crowd. York and Williams also traded off on the piano every once in a while. So talented, but too talented? No way. You're just jealous (it happens to me from time to time).
I give the show 5 big shiny stars. I can't wait until Paramore comes back to Florida, although I hope the next time around, they hit Tampa. I have seen the band eight times now, and it never gets old. They always bring something fresh to the table; this time it was the new album. And of course Hayley had a new hair color… blonde. Goodbye neon red and yellow (pictured above). I loved every minute of the show, and I was still buzzing about it the next morning. They better win a Grammy soon, or I'm gunna go crazy!
If you have not picked up their new album, Brand New Eyes, you need to stop what you are doing and go get it. Your life is a mere nothing without it.

For a long time I've had this funny thought roaming in the back of my mind. Ya know how bands like AC/DC and Kiss are still playing shows 20+ years after they made it big? Well, sometimes I wonder if Paramore will do the same. Maybe in 20+ years, I will be reminiscing on my childhood of listening to and adoring Paramore. At least now I know there is one memory I will cherish forever, and that is Monday night's show at House of Blues in Orlando.
This show was worthy of the 90-minute joy ride from St. Pete to Orlando, so my friend and I set out on our adventure, blaring the new Paramore album,  Brand New Eyes, the entire length of the trip. Despite a minor bump in the road — I'm terrible with directions and we ended up driving around some residential area of Orlando, trying to find the House of Blues — wee finally made it to Downtown Disney, and were immediately greeted with a line that had to be no less than 2 miles long. Great.
