(WBBM NEWSRADIO) — There was a lunchtime dance party on Wednesday in Daley Plaza to celebrate 40 years of Chicago's most famous music genre: house.
"There's so many incredible artists right here in Chicago. You can throw a stone and hit one of them, they're all hanging out in here, all the originators,” John Curley, co-founder of ARC Music Fest said.
“To be able to pop up in Daley Plaza is something really special. Like I said, it is for the people and that’s really the whole point of it.”
Some people were munching on lunch, others, dancing their hearts out at the free event featuring DJ Derrick Carter and DJ Heather among others.
“House music is a compilation of all old music, like, put together to different beats,” said Renee who came out with a friend to enjoy the weather.

A live DJ spun the same tunes Chicagoans have been dancing to for decades. The party was a family affair.
“She loves house music. She loves sliding down the Picaso,” said attendee David who brought his 4-year-old daughter.
There will be free seminars and performances around the city, with the House Music Festival taking place in Millennium Park on June 2. Read more about the schedule on the City of Chicago website.
