Former Pom Pom's Is Now Home To The Studio Public House – St. Pete, FL Patch

June 11, 2024

ST. PETERSBURG, FL — The former Pom Pom’s on Central Avenue has morphed into The Studio Public House.
Owners Alison Crippin and Michael Crippin, who was the British executive chef for 20 years at The Moon Under Water’s former Beach Drive location, bought Pom Pom’s in October with the intention of retooling it. Some of the Pom Pom’s favorite sandwiches, like The Woody, remain on the menu.
The Studio’s menu includes mostly sandwich creations inspired by famous British and American musicians. The Rolling Stones, The Madonna, Sinatra’s Pastrami and The Elton John are some of the many eats on the menu. The Adele Turkey Bird is made with pumpernickel, honey mustard, swiss bacon, tomato and pickled onion.
“We are going to build a wrap-around bar so that people can belly-up,” Michael said. “We won’t serve liquor right now, but eventually we can possibly do it. But right now we are building in stages, so we just have wine and beer. “

The next step for the company is to offer breakfast. Michael said they will have coffee and grab-and-go items from their sandwich menu. This is planned to take place before the end of the summer. He has regular events planned, too.

A hospitality night will be offered on Mondays, and he is in the process of creating vinyl record nights. Guests can bring their vinyl records and play it on The Studio’s turntable. Live music is offered on the weekends.
The building was once a recording studio in St. Pete history. In addition to music, local art will change out once a month that is hung on the wall that faces the front outside.
“We continue what Pom Pom’s was doing by including artists’ work on the wall,” Michael said. “We change it out once a month, and we don’t charge artists commission for what they sell. We will make another wall in The Studio a charity wall, where artists will hang their works and the money from their sales will go to a charity.”

Michael said he knows what a popular hangout place Pom Pom’s was for the LGBTQ community, and he wants to continue to have that welcoming feel at The Studio.
If you want to bring your pup and sit outside, homemade biscuits made by Michael are available to purchase for your furry friend.
The Studio Public House, 2950 Central Avenue, St. Petersburg, is open Monday through Thursday, 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.; Friday and Saturday, 11 a.m. to 10 p.m.; and Sunday 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.
The Studio Public House opened its doors April 15. Check out its full menu at The Studio Public House.
