Matroda & POLOVICH – “The Funk You Want”
Continuing to hold down the throne, MATRODA once again stormed through 2023 with a surge of success, performing many dozens of clubs and festivals this year. Lollapalooza, Veld Fest, Tomorrowland, EDC LV and Splash House are a portion of the flagship festivals he’s taken the stage at, all while having time to run his label Terminal Underground and reveal releases along the way. The man is a repetitious whirlwind of success and influence that isn’t slowing down. Closing out his year on a high note, “The Funk You Want,” is upon us. This single – produced alongside up-and-comer POLOVICH – encapsulates the essence of Matroda’s unique style: a fusion of sonic personality, infectious themes, and well-designed rhythm, all of which has played a role in placing him at the forefront of electronic dance music.
Freshcobar – “The Gemini” EP
From innovating a tech house cover of the 1994 classic dance music track ‘Missing’ by Everything But The Girl and pushing the gas pedal on tech with NOS Recordings’ debut and recent releases, Freshcobar, pronounces himself with groomed productions for his 5-track, ‘The Gemini EP’ that plays in the proper melodic house soundscape while pulling out a more primal feel. Rumbling with plenty of bass and riddled with organic house, progressive sound design, classic piano melodies and silky vocal work, ‘The Gemini EP’ is a mature collection that is destined to open people’s eyes to this side of dance music. Freshcobar shares on the EP, “These tracks are deeply personal and carry the essence of resilience and transformation.”
The last track of the EP has just been released, ‘Floating Spaces’, which happens to be the opening piece for the body of work. Freshcobar shares his creative process for ‘Floating Spaces’, “This one all started with the piano, me playing for about 5 minutes, then chopped it up to give you what you hear. Next up were the drums and percussion to give a groove and a swing. For the bass line, I used a couple layers. Then I added a little drone organ in the background, a little arp and a bunch of various instruments to this to make it very organic. The vocal chops were necessary then finally I added a bunch of ear candy, and that is how ‘Floating Spaces’ was created.” Now it’s time to plug into the full, beautifully charged story with tracks titled ‘Meditate’, ‘I Been Thinkin’ and ‘Do You’ via No One’s Safe (NOS) Recordings.
Sherm & Chris Diaz- “Standing Ovation”
In a grand finale to a stellar year, Chicago’s breakthrough house artist Sherm teams up with San Diego-based Chris Diaz to drop their latest collaborative masterpiece, “Standing Ovation,” via Candy Flip Records.”Standing Ovation” is a tour de force, a rumbling tech house odyssey that immerses listeners with its pulsating rhythms and thumping four on the floor beats that embody an underground element with a broad appeal. Sherm’s signature touch is unmistakable as Chris Diaz’s contribution adds an extra layer of intrigue, infusing this single with unmistakable energy from start to finish. Together, their unique melodic sensibilities create a hypnotic anthem that is sure to stay in heavy rotation deep into the new year. As Sherm shares:
“Standing Ovation is truly a 50/50 split on our styles and sounds. We revived the composition from a stack of ID’s that I had and Diaz immediately had a connection to the idea. The layers and progression of the track make it really unique and you find yourself absorbed in the music. So happy to finally release this one with my BOY!”

“Wet” kicks off with a pounding four-on-the-floor kick drum, backdropped by real-life rain recordings. Then, an echoed vocal refrain enters the mix with the word “wet” reverberating within a seemingly submerged environment – a stylistic choice that perfectly reflects the track’s evocation of changing warehouse climates. Next, the song builds with driving persuasive elements, scintillating hi-hats, and bright synth stabs before bringing in Starya’s lush vocals.
