House music is the UK’s “most popular club genre”, new research by A2D2 has revealed.
An event-based analysis using 2024 data from Resident Advisor found that house is the top genre with 2,203 music events in nine out of 16 UK cities: London, Nottingham, Manchester, Leeds, Brighton, Bristol, Liverpool, Cardiff and Edinburgh.
The data also showed that techno is the most popular genre in Newcastle, Belfast, Glasgow, and Aberdeen — with 1,375 events so far in 2024 — while finishing in second place overall. In Sheffield, jazz is the second most popular genre.
According to the study, Birmingham has the most “versatile taste” with drum & bass coming in as the top-rated club music genre followed by Afrobeats and grime. Meanwhile, the city of Dundee holds disco in the highest esteem.
