Interview: Roger Sanchez – House music icon – RTL Today

June 25, 2024

Roger’s career is a rich tapestry of innovation, woven with the threads of countless nights spent crafting sounds that move both the body and the soul.
If house music were a galaxy, Roger Sanchez would be its brightest star. Emerging from the vibrant streets of Queens, New York, his beats have been the lifeblood of dance floors around the world since the late ’80s.

His timeless anthem “Another Chance” dropped in 2001, when I was a fresh faced 15 year old, just getting into dance music and dreaming of being on the DJ circuit. The first time I heard it, I was completely hooked. Roger had seamlessly sampled Toto in order to create a truly classic house track, blending nostalgic beats with dreamy synths to craft an experience that transcended the dance floor. It has left a lasting imprint on clubbers ever since, whilst also being the iconic song that opened my eyes to house music.

I began our meeting by expressing my disappointment at missing his performance at Glitterbox in Ibiza over the weekend. “I had to fly home earlier than expected because my son was unwell,” I explained. “I was so looking forward to it!” Without missing a beat, and exuding effortless positivity, he replied, “No worries… you know, we go again on Sunday!”

For the next 30 minutes, I had the opportunity to talk to Roger about his journey, side projects, family life, and how he masterfully hones his craft, whilst connecting emotionally with his audience.
