Jazz House owner finally lands Brandon spot he coveted – Tampa Bay Times

June 5, 2024

BRANDON — It was less than a year ago when Eric Fleming watched with envy as Bistro 60, a posh eatery, opened in a former Beef ‘O’ Brady’s location adjacent to the Clarion Inn at 9331 E Adamo Drive.
He eyed the location as the perfect venue for his Jazz Supper Club that he launched in Ybor circa 2013.
“I wanted it,” said Fleming, who didn’t see any vision in the new eatery. “I told (the owner), ‘You will not be successful.'”
As of New Year’s Eve, Fleming got it (after Bistro 60 closed), threw a big party and immediately rebranded his Ybor City Jazz House to the Jazz House Supper Club. His vision is a mature crowd with an upscale vibe.
“Live music is the key,” said Fleming, who grew up on old school soul and classical jazz music and was exposed to live music while traveling overseas in the military.
Local musicians such as Shawn Brown and the Beat Down Band are among the regular headliners. Fleming, 46, said he wants to bring in B.K. Jackson (of Trombone Shorty and Prince fame).
He also welcomes what he calls “New Jacks” because he wants to promote up and comers who have experience but need some fine tuning. To that end, his club will begin Tampa Bay Jam Sessions Feb. 6 allowing musicians to sit in with the band to hone their craft.
The Jazz House Supper Club offers new VIP seating and the outside entrance and bar area facing Adamo Drive will get palm trees when the weather breaks to increase curb appeal. Since Fleming and executive chef, Duane Maxwell, are responsible for all food and beverage at the hotel, future plans also include expanding to the pool area and ballroom.
For now, the inside holds 250 people and 150 outside.
Fleming wants to create a destination to stay and play. He says his clientele exudes class which is why he strictly enforces a suit and tie/evening gown dress code. He compares the Jazz House Supper Club experience to that of Orlando, where people pay roughly a $25 cover charge, or even the $40 experience in Miami.
Doors are open 9 p.m. to 3 a.m. Thursday through Saturday. Thursdays, ladies are free until 11 p.m., then it’s $5. Fridays are $10 and Saturdays are $20.
February starts lunch hours from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Call (813) 642-6558 for reservations. Visit jazzhousesupperclub.com to see upcoming events and view the dress code rules.
