Looking to escape the desert heat and enjoy summer music festivals in Southern California? There’s a variety of music festivals catering to rock, pop, metal and other genres. Here are our picks.
What: Formerly the Playboy Jazz Festival, the Hollywood Bowl continues to celebrate everything jazz with established and budding musicians in the genre. This year’s lineup features Andra Day, Jason Moran, Christian McBride, Mulatu Astatke and more.

What: A touring summer festival featuring Americana and classic country artists such as Willie Nelson, Bob Dylan, John Mellencamp and Brittney Spencer. The annual tour, founded by Nelson, has become a top draw on the summer circuit since its 2016 debut as a standalone event in Pennsylvania.
When: 5 p.m. July 31, Hollywood Bowl, 2301 Highland Ave., Los Angeles.

What: In 2023, the electronic music festival Hard Summer moved to a combination of venues in Los Angeles such as Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum, Exposition Park, and BMO Stadium. This year’s festival will be held at Hollywood Park featuring Disclosure, Jamie XX, Major Lazer, Dillon Francis and more.
When: Aug. 3-4, Hollywood Park at SoFi Stadium, 1011 Stadium Drive, Los Angeles.

What: Limp Bizkit were the bad boys of nu-metal during the late ’90s and early 2000s. Even though Limp Bizkit sold millions of albums, the band was a victim of its own success and accused by critics and metal fans for creating a cultural low. A new generation of fans has discovered songs such as “Nookie” and “Break Stuff” resurgence and Limp Bizkit performed at Lollapalooza in 2021, Vive Latino in 2022 and the Aftershock Festival in 2023. For 2024, Limp Bizkit will headline the touring festival “Loserville” featuring Bones, N8NOFACE and actor/musician Corey Feldman.

What: For those looking to take things “Higher” this summer, the ’90s rock band Creed is back and headlining the touring festival Summer of ’99 and Beyond featuring 3 Doors Down, Daughtry, Finger Eleven, Fuel and Vertical Horizon.

What: Imagine a festival featuring classic R&B, soul and funk. That’s what the Fool In Love festival is. The only downside is there are so many legendary performers on this lineup — such as Lionel Richie, Diana Ross, Santana, Al Green, Eric Burdon and the Animals, Nile Rodgers and Chic, and many more — to cause several schedule conflicts.
When: Aug. 31, Hollywood Park at SoFi Stadium, 1011 Stadium Drive, Los Angeles

What: Nocturnal Wonderland is all about high-fives and good vibes and features three-dimensional structures, glow-in-the-dark environments and prominent EDM artists. This year’s lineup includes Kaskade, Max Styler, Green Velvet and more.

What: Curated by Eddie Vedder of Pearl Jam, this three-day festival at Doheny State Beach in Dana Point features some of the biggest names in rock music. Pearl Jam, Neil Young and Alanis Morissette will headline this year’s festival that will also feature Garbage, Black Pumas, IDLES and more.
When: Sept. 27-29, Doheny State Beach, 25-300 Dana Point Harbor Drive, Dana Point.
How much: Single-day tickets are $196 and GA festival passes are $530. VIP packages are also available.

What: An electronic music festival that includes art installations, interactive experiences such as yoga, sound baths and wellness workshops, as well as a mixture of food vendors. The San Diego-based promoter behind the festival has been doing the event at Lake Perris since 2018. The 2024 lineup will be released on June 10.

What: A music festival for discerning music lovers of all ages that embrace rock ‘n’ roll and world music, but all four of its stages feature a mix of rock, pop, rap, R&B and electronic music. The crowd is a mixture of Los Angeles scenesters, old and young punk rockers wearing denim vests littered with band logos, Burning Man attendees and more. This year’s lineup is TBA, but Tame Impala, King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard, Iggy Pop, Eagles of Death Metal and more have performed at Desert Daze in previous years.
