Rwandan electro duo Nep DJs have announced plans to launch a monthly EDM event called The Rave Party, which will be held on every last Saturday of the month.
Nep DJs said the event would cater to fans of electro, house and other dance subgenres, which are steadily gaining popularity in the country.
“The inspiration behind the rave party is to introduce EDM and provide space to connect and enjoy the sound and songs coming out,” Nep DJs said.
“EDM is growing in Rwanda, yet we don’t have parties or festivals of such genres. With this event, we hope that EDM will get more listeners,” the duo told The New Times.
The hugely popular amapiano genre from South Africa is arguably the most prominent of the continent’s electronic subgenres. Some of the top dance tracks in Rwanda include ‘Unbreakable’ by Maone and Eloi El and ‘Kamwe’ by Bmjizzo and Babalao featuring the Rwandan All Stars.
Nep DJs is composed of Iyarwema Kaysan Bertrand, aka DJ Berto, and Kamugisha Habib, aka DJ Habz. The two have made a mark on the local scene as DJs for the Kigali Jazz Junction series.
The two are part of Nep Group, which owns a portfolio of creative businesses, including event planning solutions, experiential marketing, brand activation and partnerships.
