Shipwrecked Music Festival Recap: A-List & Emerging DJs in an Intimate Tampa Setting – Respect My Region

Florida has always been a place known to offer a good time. However, it has not always been known for its electronic music scene, which is often a huge part of that good time. Regardless, over the past decade and especially the last few years, the EDM scene has been expanding beyond belief in the Sunshine State. While many EDM hotspots are confined to cities like Denver, NYC, and LA, Florida’s scene extends beyond just one city; it is spread throughout the entire state in cities such as Orlando, Miami, Tampa, Tallahassee, Jacksonville, Gainesville, and more.
With a couple of our team members based in Florida, we’ve had the opportunity to attend and cover events like EDC Orlando and Suwannee Hulaween. Now, our team made it over to the West Coast to check out Shipwrecked Music Festival in Tampa. Continue reading to hear about our personal experience at this Alliance Events-thrown festival.
Tucked away at The Cuban Club in Ybor City, Shipwrecked was a small event that took place the same weekend as the world-famous Gasparilla Pirate Festival. Because of this, the venue filled up as the night went on, with many people migrating from Downtown Tampa over to Ybor City to finish up their night. This brought the venue to life; hundreds of people were dancing and mingling inside and outside, giving it an almost pre-pandemic feel.
Though the event was two days, I only had the chance to make it on Saturday. Nonetheless, the music and energy I soaked in during just one day were enough to feel like I had just experienced a full-weekend festival.
With it being such a small festival, the music was undoubtedly the focus and highlight of the event. Other than the two stages, there were a handful of vendors, a couple of food trucks, and a few bars. Additionally, there was also a silent disco featuring three different channels with artists such as Gonzo, Adrian B, and Nori.
Alliance Events doesn’t seem to miss when it comes to booking their Florida events. Headlining this festival was Nora En Pure on Friday, with Green Velvet and Baauer headlining on Saturday. In addition to these renowned electronic talents, the stages were packed with some of the hottest emerging DJs, both local and national.
The main stage (The Helm) was located outside in a large lot; this is where Green Velvet and Baauer performed, who both offered groovy tunes that got everyone moving. This stage seemed focused more on house and techno music. Conversely, the inside stage (The Gallows) was more bass-focused, with experimental bass, dubstep, and drum ‘n bass playing all night. Inside the Cuban Club, I got to experience the ground-shaking sounds of Golden Child, Saka, and Guppi.
While I had no prior experience with electronic music events on the West Coast of the state, Shipwrecked was an amazing introduction to what Tampa has to offer. Between the intimate and safe setting, friendly people, and top-notch talent, it is safe to say that I will be returning to Shipwrecked next year; and this time, I’ll be bringing a bunch of people with me to experience the West Coast energy!
