So long, Leonardo's: Pizza spot will house UF's School of Music – Tampa Bay Times

Students and alumni knew one of their favorite lunch spots may be on borrowed time when the University of Florida Foundation announced in August 2016 that it had purchased the property that houses Leonardo’s By The Slice and Bistro 1245.
On Wednesday, university officials announced what will occupy that location. To some students, it may be music to their ears.
The property at 1245 W. University Ave., which has been home to Leonardo’s for 44 years, will now be occupied by the university’s School of Music, UF President Kent Fuchs told the Gainesville Sun.

A university spokeswoman told the Alligator that plans are in place for a building, about 120,000 square feet, that will house a recital hall and parking. It is uncertain when construction will begin or when Leonardo’s will close.
The School of Music currently resides in an open-air site on campus at Newell Drive and Stadium Road.
Leonardo’s had received a bit of a reprieve last year when its owner, Steve Solomon, told the Alligator that it would remain open for at least another year.
With the purchase, the university now owns the Leonardo’s site, as well as adjacent property at the corner of SW 13th Street and W University Avenue that now houses a Circle K and vacant lot.
Those who will still long for Leonardo’s thick slices, calzones and garlic rolls will have to drive a little further to indulge their tastes — to the Leonardo’s 706 location at 706 W University Ave.
