It might go without saying that attending a music festival can feel good. But did you know that it can genuinely provide positive feelings? As it turns out, some genres of music – within the 90-150 beats per minute range – generate positive emotions while at the same time decreasing the negative ones.
Have you ever listened to a song, and it just put you in a good mood? As it turns out, there may be a scientific reason for that. A study done by our experts at Casino.com reveals that there are actually some music festivals that provide feelings of happiness to attendees.
Music has an impact on dopamine levels in the body, which means that some genres can have a direct impact on happiness and joy. That equates to some very happy music festivals taking place across the country.
According to our report at Casino.com, “Research has shown that different music genres can increase dopamine (happy hormone) levels when we listen to them. Specifically, music with a tempo of 90 to 150 beats per minute (BPM) has been found to generate more positive emotions, such as happiness and joy, while also decreasing negative emotions.”
As it turns out, there are actually a few different genres that meet those criteria. At the higher end of the spectrum are Techno (120-160 BPM) and Rock (110-140 BPM). Somewhere in the middle is House Music (118-135 BPM) and Pop (100-130 BPM). Toward the lower end of the spectrum is Hip-Hop (85-115 BPM).
Now that we are gearing up for festival time, it helps to know which of them include the genres that are part of that study. Popularity is important as well; some festivals are a bit too small to make a real impact.
At the top of the list is Burning Man. Not far behind are Lollapalooza, Coachella, and the Electric Daisy Carnival. Other popular festivals that land on the list of the happiest include Bonnaroo, Levitation, SXSW, Movement, and Electric Forest.
Here is a list of the top five.
Music plays an important role in our lives. For some, it is the soundtrack to life itself. As it turns out, listening to music within a certain BPM range can actually make you feel happy. While that isn’t a guarantee, listening to those genres of music over a long period of time can prove beneficial.
