NEW MUSIC | NEW ARTISTS | LIVE EXPERIENCES
This Memorial day weekend will be one to remember; Sunset Music Festival is back and bigger than ever. Upping the event from 2 to 3 days, Tampa Bay’s Raymond James Stadium is back for its 10th year. A long list of artists from across the globe will be coming together to showcase the best EDM this summer has to offer. Four main stages will be hosting visitors, headliners this year include Duke Dumont, Illenium, Oliver Heldens, and Zeds Dead.
One of this year’s highlights includes the return of Alesso. It’s been ten years since he performed at Raymond James Stadium for the first ever SMF. What better way to mark the occasion than by having Alesso close off the main stage? Other highlights include new spots to cool off in the hot Florida summer. Sunset has prepared a number of chic chill out spots, complete with cushioned bean bag chairs, shade structures, and other amenities.
To get ready for the party, we’ve put together a list of our favorite new artists this year. Check them out and get excited with us:
Jaenga, a bass purist with throwback inclinations, incorporates live guitar, percussion, or even simply a pair of CDJs into his immersive concerts. He has continued to release music on Deadbeats and has produced a wonderful audio experience that affects the listener deeply. Give his “Paradigms EP listening party” mix a go.
Joshwa has been on the rise in recent years, beginning with his 2018 tech house remake of Fatboy Slim’s “Praise You,” which received support from PAX, Sammy Porter, Mat.Joe, Kryder, Piem, Brett Gould, and others on Beatport and Traxsource. Since then, he’s released on a number of well-known labels, including Lovejuice, Spinnin, Cr2, Solotoko, and Nervous, to mention a few, all of which have helped him extend his diverse discography. Joshwa continues to be a force to be reckoned with in 2022, from his summer smash “Party’s Jumpin,” through his hit single “My Humps,” to this year’s “How We Do.” This is it.
Wreckno is a 26-year-old queer rapper/producer/DJ who has gone from a small village in Michigan to being named one of “electronic music’s brightest young stars” in the Bass Music/EDM scene. His music has been featured in Fortnite and has received support from some of EDM’s greatest stars, including Donna Summer and Madonna. PANSY, Wreckno’s most recent EP, looked at reclaiming and finding power in hate speech that had previously been used against him. All the trap and bass energy is ready to go at his sets.
Imanbek is a Kazakh house music producer and remixer who is well-known in Kazakhstan, Russia, and Ukraine thanks to his label Imanbek Music. With his remix of Saint Jhn’s “Roses” in 2019, he became an international sensation. Anyone looking for funky, tropical vibes must check this out.
Mike Inzano, best known by his stage name INZO, is a Chicago-based artist that defies categorization when it comes to style and genre. We can almost certainly validate his 6-word bio, which simply states, “I dabble in most electronic genres.” He was at SMF last year and killed it with a Clozee remix. Check out the song here.
She was formerly known as the Queen of Arps and specialized in melodic, dramatic trap music. But, like so many of us, the epidemic forced Rossy to leave her day job and stay at home. With more time on her hands, she set about creating more forward-thinking and original music. Here is some of it.
Miane is the living embodiment of the DIY culture that is sweeping over electronic music, a culture that hasn’t ceased delivering us some of the most remarkable talents of the last several years, despite not having grown up in a musical setting. Miane manages to boost each and every one of her tracks by combining the best characteristics of each of house’s subgenres, with her distinctive use of Black voices that she can modify at will and that magic touch that acts as her secret ingredient. This set will give you life.
