Sunset Music Festival lineup: The Chainsmokers, Marshmello, Excision, more coming to Tampa – Tampa Bay Times

May 30, 2024

***UPDATE*** Shortly after the Chainsmokers were announced as this year’s SMF headliners, they were scrubbed from the poster by the festival. It’s unclear why, but you can get more details here. The original post is as follows.
The last time the Chainsmokers played the Sunset Music Festival, they played an early version of Closer, well before the song became a huge hit.
It’s safe to say this time around, everyone will be singing every word.
The Chainsmokers will headline the 2018 Sunset Music Festival, May 26 and 27 at Raymond James Stadium in Tampa. They’ll close out the fest on Sunday following a mainstage set by Excision. Costumed DJ sensation Marshmello will headline the opening night on Saturday, preceded by a mainstage set by NGHTMRE.
Among the other big names on this year’s just-announced SMF lineup: A-Trak, Zomboy, Borgore, Alan Walker, Boombox Cartel,  Hippie Sabotage, San Holo, 3LAU, Slander, Bear Grillz and Herobust. There’s even a rapper on the initial lineup, Yo Gotti.
Rounding out the bill: AC Slater, Anna Lunoe, Barely Alive, Bonnie x Clyde, Boogie T, Crankdat, Destructo, Ekali, Elephante, Habstrakt, Joyryde, K?D, Loud Luxury, Medasin, Quix, Space Jesus, SQUNTO, Two Friends, Virtual Riot, Wax Motif, Whethan, YehMe2, Cray, GG Magree, GypZ, Hex Cougar, Kuuro, Party Pupils, Parker, Riot Ten, Vincent and Warez.
But the act to watch will probably still be the Chainsmokers, who are working on their follow-ups to smash singles Closer, Don’t Let Me Down, Paris and Something Just Like This. This will be their fourth time playing SMF, and their second time atop the poster.
INTERVIEW: The Chainsmokers talk about bringing their golden pop touch to life in Tampa
“We started that festival really early in the day in the beginning, and a few years later we were headlining, so it’s really great to have that history there,” the Chainsmokers’ Alex Pall told the Times last year.
The festival is also still on watch after two people died from drug overdoses in 2016. Heightened security measures were put into effect last year, and as a result, fewer people were taken to the hospital, with no fatalities.
