✔️ = Critic's Pick
Unmotivated 10th Anniversary w/Propaganjah/Guerilla Panic St. Pete’s own UnMotivated mustered up enough gumption to stay together for a decade, so the six-piece reggae-rock and ska outfit is throwing a big party to help it celebrate 10 years of bandom. Joining it will be Carribean rockers Propaganjah and Sunshine City ska-punks Guerilla Panic. (Ringside Cafe, St. Petersburg) INFO
✔️ Telepathic Lines w/Broken Things/Nervous Girls We like zines around here, so it’s cool to see Broken Things’ Anthony Ateek releasing the first issue  of his “Handbills and Ticket Stubs” book (we’ll let you glean the topics covered in its pages) at this show where his punk band — along with another local (Nervous Girls) — plays support for Telepathic Lines. The St. Augustine-based beach-pop band has come out of the garage to support a 2017 EP, Little Brother, which Razorcake describes as living in that “earnest and nostalgic sweet spot where The Promise Ring and Uncle Tupelo might come together,” and this free show is a great reason to get out of the house. (Green Bench Brewing, St. Petersburg) (UPDATE: News of a production delay came out after we went to print, no 'zine for you.) INFO
DIFFERENT DRUMMERS
Cunsthaus' Noisy Womxn collaborative finds its rhythm in Tampa
The Poetry Show w/Meghan McManus What happens when someone put poets in front of a band of experimental musicians? We don’t really know, but we’re going to find out. The Poetry Show is a live improvised collaboration; we give poets the opportunity to perform their work with the support of a band of talented musical improvisers. The musicians react to the words, and the poets work with the rhythm of the music, resulting in a completely unique performance that can never be duplicated. The musicians are led by percussionist Meghan McManus (a noisy womxn), who uses everything from knives, flower pots and buckets of water and other objects, to synthesizers and vibraphones, to create improvised soundscapes to accompany the words. Eight poets (chosen by Ed Derkevics of SHAMc and Poetry Show creator Cole Bellamy) will perform. (Safety Harbor Art & Music Center, Safety Harbor) INFO
NHL ALL-STAR WEEKEND
Your guide to the music, how to move around town and more
✔️Ella Jet w/Dean Johanesen/Tribal Style Saturday will be a long day for music lovers who already have tickets to the sold-out NHL All-Star Skills Competition (Flo Rida is playing inside of the arena), but those not going inside of the arena can still take in some free concerts at Cotanchobee park (on the southeastern end of Amalie Arena, near the Tampa Bay History Center) starting at 12 p.m. when pop songwriter Ella Jet plays an outdoor stage before vintage-folk singer Dean Johanesen (1:30 p.m.) and roots-reggae band Tribal Style (5 p.m.). (Cotanchobee Park, Tampa) INFO
✔️Flo Rida w/Joshua Cruz and the Experience A little boy destined for big things — Joshua Cruz — brings his band inside of Amalie Arena where he will play in-house to entertain guests during the NHL All-Star Skills Competition. Providing intermission entertainment? Miami rapper Flo Rida, who was just here for last winter's College Football Championship. Read more about the Saturday show — and all of the All-Star Game-related music happenings — here. (Amalie Arena, Tampa) SOLD OUT
HOMETOWN ALL-STAR
Tampa's own Joshua Cruz & The Experience added to music lineup for NHL All-Star Skills Competition
Low Season w/Horsewhip/BiteMarks/Meatwound There's going to be some heavy drinking and an unnatural level of pirate cosplay going down in Tampa on Saturday, so this rock show is hot and heavy alternative to the 813 debauchery. Meatwound put out one of our favorite local albums of 2017, and Horsewhip is one of the best heavy bands going these days, so bringing some ear protection to Fubar is a good idea. (Fubar, St. Petersburg) INFO
Houseparilla w/Franky Rizardo They probably don’t dress up like pirates in Holland, but Dutch house producer Franky Rizardo is going to have to make do when he headlines this clubby party happening just outside of the Gasparilla drunk-people blast zone. Bonus points if you don’t puke inside. (Hyde Park Café, Tampa) INFO
GIGANTIC FUN
Interview: Before St. Pete show, They Might Be Giants talks fans, phones, fun and love
C✔️They Might Be Giants Longtime Brooklynites John Linnell and John Flansburgh update their band’s sound and dwell all over dread, death, and disappointment on They Might Be Giants’ new album, I Like Fun. This show is sold out, but you can still read Bill Kopp’s interview with TMBG here. (State Theatre, St. Petersburg) SOLD OUT
Band of Sorrows w/Have Gun, Will Travel/Joshua Reilly/The Hummingbirds None of the names on this bill should be unfamiliar to Bay area fans of folk and Americana, but seeing all of them on one bill is pretty impressive. Both Band of Sorrows and Have Gun, Will Travel are working on new records — and Joshua Reilly is still riding high on the release of his stellar 2016 effort — so expect the engines to be running hot (and the whiskey to be flowing) at this one. (Crowbar, Ybor City) INFO
