September is always a fun time of the year in dance music. As the exhilarating summer festival vibes fade and day parties dwindle, club enthusiasts in areas like the Pacific Northwest swap sun-kissed revelries for the allure of cozy indoor beats, anticipating the colder, rainier seasons ahead.
Despite the shift in seasons, dance music remains vibrant and alive. Producers and artists, both established and emerging, are consistently delivering standout tracks. This month, I’ve been captivated by the sounds of Edu Schwartz, with his evocative track ‘The Unknown’ rounding off our mix. I have been equally thrilled to unearth gems from burgeoning talents like Amir Telem and Joshua Moreno.
Their musical journeys, particularly this summer, have been impressive. Introducing a potential series, delve into this curated mix, showcasing the best deep, progressive, and organic house masterpieces that graced September 2023. Perfect for those seeking the finest beats this season has to offer.
We’ve provided several different ways to dive into the curations we found this month. The best way is to listen to the mix below and soak in the laid-back melodic of the hidden gems we stumbled upon this month. All the tracks included in this mix will be continually added to this playlist, so give it a follow to keep track of all the latest music we’ve been loving.
Now, let’s dive into the whole mix, and while you listen, let’s break down some of the best new finds that came across our radar this month in organic and melodic house music.
One of the most exciting discoveries this month has been Joshua Moreno, also known as JoMö, an electrifying house/electronic artist and producer from Trinidad. With a deep-seated passion for music tracing back to his adolescence, Joshua’s transformation from an eager high school talent to a seasoned artist is awe-inspiring. Mentored in the intricate arts of music theory and composition, he dove headfirst into music production with FL Studio and made waves as a DJ.
This relentless drive culminated in his debut house track, “Inception,” in 2020. The journey didn’t stop there. By 2023, Joshua not only founded the independent record label “Luscious Vibrations” but also made a significant mark with his debut on the illustrious UK-based label Anjunadeep. A true embodiment of dedication, JoMö’s ascendancy in the music sphere is only beginning. Watch this space.
Apparently, I’m late to the game on this guy, because Israel’s Amir Telem is a name that’s rapidly gaining momentum. Fusing Melodic Techno and Organic House with an intriguing concoction of deep and shadowy melodies, Amir’s productions are anything but typical. His residence at Beach-Bar Caesarea and hosting stints at the Deeper Purpose radio show on Frisky-Radio showcase his prowess.
But his integration of spiritual messages from the Vedas, stemming from his background as a yoga and meditation instructor, adds a unique layer to his tracks. Supported by industry bigwigs like Dubfire, Black-Coffee, and Nick Warren, his releases have clinched spots on various charts, cementing his standing in the genre. Amir Telem’s sets resonate globally, from the iconic stages of Burning-Man Festival to renowned venues in NYC like Space-Ibiza and Output. And with collaborations and mixes from top-tier artists, Amir is making waves. Regarding forward-thinking production, he’s unquestionably a name to keep on your radar.
Atsou, a pillar in the house scene from Nairobi, embarked on a notable collaboration after a 2018 visit. This ambitious project, backed by the weight of Madorasindahouse Records, saw multiple collaborators rallying behind the cause. At a time when one might anticipate societies to be free from prejudices, the initiative emphasized the continuing disparities. The universal language of music, mainly electronic, was chosen to foster change.
Atsou and collaborators took a deep dive into the traditions of the Samburu tribe residing in the Samburu National Reserve. This semi-nomadic tribe’s culture and sounds became central to the project. Balancing local and European talents, the compilation offered a broad spectrum of African-inspired electronic music. Celebrating the project, an event featured a documentary that encapsulated the journey, with an extensive music session as the highlight. Looking forward, Atsou envisions a path of growth, more collaborations, and taking his sound to even more corners of the world.
