The Mekanism behind great house music… – The Sun

June 14, 2024

French innovator The Mekanism links with JAW and Erik Peers for a pair of superb new singles on MINDGAME Records, About You and Dancing Head.
The Mekanism aka Damien Roussel has already had a huge year with a new tune on Manda Moor and Sirus Hood's Moon Child label, an EP on New York label Boogeyman and previous fine outings on Robsoul Recordings, Moan Recordings, Do Not Sleep and Whippin' Records, always with a subtle evolution each and every time.
His lauded release on Seth Troxler’s Play It Say It, Acid Love in the summer of 2015 resurrected his love for Acid House and brought back the raw and primitive grooves that made House music so special. Back in 2017 he also made his debut mini album Breath on the same imprint to great acclaim. Eight tracks of burning House that seemed sure to be another enlightening chapter in The Mekanism story.
Since then he has played across the world at many of the worlds iconic stages like Burning Man and BPM Festival, and released relentlessly on some of the worlds finest house and deep tech minimal imprints.
We caught up with him this week and he talked us through a playlist of summer music which you can listen to below and read what he had to say about the music.
Also be sure to check my June instalment of The Night Bazaar Music Show on Mixcloud which includes both of The Mechanism's new tracks on MINDGAME Records as our Mixcloud page hits 25,000 followers this week. And look out for an exclusive mix dropping next week from The Mekanism on The Night Bazaar Sessions.

She was a techno pioneer from Detroit, a great artist and had an amazing heart. This track is a real funky classic house one with a vocal gimmic on it, and I love to play it everywhere.

The Mekanism – What It Was feat. Jadhé (Boogeyman)
Collaborating with the talented singer Jadhe from NYC, a few months ago I crafted a super groovy track for Jesse Calosso's label (Boogeyman). It's Inspired by the classic ghetto house sounds of the ’90’s and a track I’m really proud of 🙂
