Weekend Music Festivals to Visit: K-pop, EDM – K-VIBE

June 14, 2024

SEOUL, June 14 (Yonhap) — From festivals featuring K-pop stars like SEVENTEEN and LE SSERAFIM to EDM festivals that cool down the summer heat, there’s a diverse array of music festivals happening across the nation.

Weverse Con Festival 2024

Hybe will host the “2024 Weverse Con Festival” at the Inspire Resort in Incheon. This festival, now in its second year, features a lineup of Hybe’s K-pop groups, including SEVENTEEN, Tomorrow X Together (TXT), and LE SSERAFIM.

Other performances will include acts like 10cm, popular Japanese duo YOASOBI, trot singer Jeong Dong-won’s alter ego JD1, and virtual idol Plave. Actress Lee Sung-kyung will make her debut appearance as a singer at this music festival.

In a special tribute to celebrate his 30th anniversary in the music industry, Park Jin-young, who debuted in 1994 with hits like “Don’t Leave Me” and “She Was Pretty,” will deliver a commemorative performance. Additionally, the festival will provide digital photo cards enhanced with augmented reality (AR) technology and complimentary cheering bands with flashing lights for all attendees.

World DJ Festival (WDF)

For fans of electronic dance music (EDM), the “World DJ Festival” (WDF) is the perfect event. Held at Seoul Land in Gwacheon, this year’s festival will feature a performance by Swedish DJ Eric Prydz, known for hits like “Call on Me” and “Midnight City.”

This will be Prydz’s first performance in South Korea. Other notable performers include Alan Walker and The Chainsmokers, who are well-known for their hits “Faded” and “Closer,” respectively.

Brazilian DJ Alok and techno-based artist Liu will also bring their unique sounds to the festival. The Dutch EDM label Q-Dance will present a spectacular show combining music, fireworks, and lasers.

DMZ Peace Train Music Festival

The “DMZ Peace Train Music Festival” in Goseokjeong, Cheorwon County, Gangwon Province, offers a unique experience that includes both music performances and a DMZ tour. This year’s lineup features 24 artists representing various genres, including rapper E Sens, indie band Uhuhboo Project (featuring actor Baek Hyun-jin), and band Cacophony, which bases its sound on African music jams.

The festival will also showcase performances from artists across generations, from “little giant” Kim Soo-chul to the young band Silica Gel. International acts include the Japanese indie pop band Gliico.

In addition to performances, the festival offers a variety of side events, such as the “Peace Camp,” where attendees can enjoy camping amidst Cheorwon’s natural scenery, and a program allowing visitors to walk through the DMZ Eco Peace Park within the civilian control line.

These festivals provide an excellent opportunity to immerse oneself in the vibrant music culture and enjoy a diverse range of performances from both local and international artists.
